Class Description: These days the average human is in a steady state of stress. Our Sympathetic Nervous System (the “fight or flight” aspect of our autonomic nervous system) is almost always on. This causes stress on our physical and mental body. The cure? Relaxation. Relaxation causes a reduction in muscle tension and improves circulation, thus leading to a whole slew of benefits such as: lowering the high blood pressure, boosting the immune system, improving the capacity for healing, aiding in digestion, alleviating depression, improving sleep, and decreasing stress hormone known as cortisol.
Relax and Renew® is a restorative yoga method that emphasizes putting the body in a comfortable position, encouraging no effort, quieting the mind, bringing a gentle awareness to the breath, and providing ample amount for stillness, dark, and quiet. The Relax and Renew® method also stresses staying in each restorative pose for no less than 15 minutes to allow ample time for the parasympathetic nervous system (the “rest and renew” system) to activate so the body can begin to heal itself. In this workshop Shanna will assist each student into gentle restorative poses, guide them into a few gentle breath exercises and mediation practices, provide light sound healing with Tibetan singing bowls, and hold space as the students rest in the pose. (90 minutes)
What to bring: Journal and pen should you choose to jot down a few thoughts before and after each pose, blankets and pillows for added comfort
