Reiki translates into “universal energy.” Energy is all around us. The reiki model of healing focuses on how energy, through the chakra system, affects physical, mental, and spiritual well-being by redistributing imbalanced energy throughout the body or removing blockages. A chakra is a wheel of energy within the body that affects physical and emotional aspects of the human experience, which can get blocked a create uneven distribution of energy.

We experience the world physically, emotionally, mentally, and energetically. Mental health professionals can have the opportunity of addressing all of these realms with their clients by becoming trained in Reiki. Level I training focuses on theory and self-care, which the therapist can not only use for their clients but also to prevent burnout within themselves.

Melanie Summers is a Usui Reiki Master and Karuna Reiki Master and Licensed Professional Counseling Associate license in the state of Kentucky. She uses somatic psychology, mindfulness, and acceptance to heal from trauma, anxiety, depression, and grief with all ages. Melanie has been practicing since 2010 and practicing trauma-informed care since 2013. Melanie is a retired massage therapist, as well as, a yoga therapist.
